This teaching case introduces students to lean management principles using NASCAR race data. Students will play the role of a new hire within the finance department of a NASCAR team and are tasked with looking for waste and unevenness in recent race results. Students will be required to clean and analyze the data, prepare visualizations, and look for insights in the data to make recommendations to management. Students will use data cleaning, analytics, and visualization software to analyze the case. The goals of this case are to: introduce students to the lean mindset, enhance students’ critical thinking and data analytics skills, and improve students’ data visualization and presentations skills.
