DESCRIPTION
The objective of this poster session is to provide faculty and students with an instrument that facilitates a smooth and clear visual depiction of the lean enterprise with an obvious connection to the managerial accounting classroom. Textbooks for cost accounting and managerial accounting continue to emphasize the traditional methods of accounting with lean concepts scattered through some of the chapters.
The competitive environment businesses face today has caused management to adopt changes in production and delivery of products and services. Looking more closely at these new methods, which are collectively known as lean enterprise, allows a view into a modern process for conducting business. Because the methods are changing for businesses, accounting systems require changes in order to keep pace. The managerial classroom should address not only the concepts of lean enterprise, but also the very different principles and methods found in lean accounting. This poster can be useful at the introductory managerial accounting level, in the cost accounting courses, and particularly for the masters level student who is preparing to move into a position in a business following the lean enterprise methods.
