Session Submission Type: Panel
In July of 2012 the American Accounting Association (AAA) and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) released the Pathways Commission Report. The report offers seven major recommendations aimed at improving accounting education. These suggestions include attracting and preparing highly-qualified students and address the overall relevance of activities such as research, teaching, and accounting PhD programs.
Some recommendations echo past suggestions and other failed attempts to revamp accounting education (e.g., AEEC 1992.) So what is different this time? What are the challenges educators face in implementing these recommendations and how can they be overcome? These are the questions our experts will address during this session.
Our panel will be comprised of individuals with diverse and unique perspectives on this issue. It will include panelists with significant business experience, university accounting teaching, education experts (K-12 and university-level), and even an accounting student. The goal of this panel session is to facilitate meaningful discussion amongst the panel and the session participants related specifically to the issue of implementation of the Pathways Commission recommendations.
