With increased pressure for accounting majors to graduate with strong writing ability, the question naturally occurs: Who among their college teachers are properly trained to teach such skills? There has been much written about the need for “discipline-specific” writing skills in all areas of business, but particularly in accounting. Does this mean that accounting faculty should be teaching written communication to their accounting majors? Moreover, if accounting faculty will be expected to teach written communication, are they trained and capable of doing so? If so, it is important to identify strategies and tools that might assist them with the task of improving their students’ writing skills.
