This paper examines the status of corporate social responsibility reporting under the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) guidelines reporting in the Financial Services Sector.
This industry is composed of Retail Banking, Commercial and Corporate Banking, Asset Management, and Insurance. The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) developed a Financial Services Sector Supplement of 16 sector specific indicators. The current study adds to understanding of CSR disclosure by: (1) examining the reporting of US financial services companies; (2) expanding the disclosure components examined to include visual or non-textual elements; and (3) providing information on the relative support for economic and sociopolitical theories of voluntary disclosure.
