Millennials, Generation Y, the “Me” Generation. No matter what the label, this is the generation of young adults graduating from college and entering the workforce today. Numerous studies have examined the characteristics of this generation and have made comparisons with the preceding generations. The general consensus is that these new entrants to the workforce are “different” from the Gen X and Baby Boomers that came before them and the media has considerable attention is given to these differences as a means to better prepare the ‘older generation’ who will be recruiting or managing the new staff as to what to expect or not expect. In this study we examine how important various job search criteria are to current accounting students who will be entering the job market and compare them to the results of the same study done with accounting students in 1991. We find that while student’s perceived importance of some criteria has changed, the most important criteria they look for in a job search has not changed considerably in the last twenty years.
