Whether and how much faculty research affects teaching outcomes is frequently a subject for research. For the schools in the Western Region of the AAA, a proxy for accounting teaching outcomes, CPA Exam pass rates, was regressed upon ranked faculty research publications derived from a well-recognized accounting research listings database. The model controlled for the academic strength of each school’s incoming freshmen. The research rank variable was found to be significant at the .02 level suggesting that, in addition to the quality of the freshman class, faculty research influenced student learning outcomes.
