Improving Readers’ Metacomprehension and Calibration Accuracy

Fri, Nov 7, 8:00 to 9:00am, 3rd Level, Clearwater

Short Description

This session will present findings from an empirical study on embedded cognitive and metacognitive support within a digital text. A sample population of undergraduates (N = 80) read a digital text on photography and results indicated that providing a mixture of metacognitive and cognitive support yielded more accurate calibration and stronger metacomprehension judgments, both of which are traits of academically successful learners. More active processing during reading resulted in higher levels of invested mental effort.
