The complexity of learning software has grown exponentially in recent years, making it difficult to control student outcomes. Much educational software is aimed at protected populations (under-18 learners). Therefore, a central ethical question is whether instructors should use learning software and how best to make that decision. This presentation will present a proposal decision framework to support making pedagogically and ethically sound decisions about why, when, and whether learning software should be used.
