Undergraduate Practitioner Faculty Motivations to Teach in Higher Education: A Mixed Methods Study

Short Description

Studies indicate full time faculty teaching at the undergraduate level demonstrate consistent motivators for teaching including expression of expertise, salary, social dissuasion, and satisfaction with teaching. However, research rarely includes part-time, practitioner-oriented faculty who’s main professional and financial focus is outside the university. The present explanatory mixed-methods study investigates the motivation of practitioner-oriented undergraduate faculty in online programs through surveys and interviews. Results support implement practices for program administrators who recruit and retain practitioner faculty.
