The intersection of learning and instruction is the subject of this book. That is, what do people need to know about theories of learning for them to be useful in practice? That is the question driving the examination in this book of prominent theories of learning and their potential applications to instruction. Examples of theory into practice are discussed in K-12, higher education, and professional contexts.
For those familiar with previous editions of the book, it is important to note that the learning landscape has changed significantly since the 3rd edition. As a result, the organization of the book has also changed, with targeted application chapters interspersed among theory chapters, including a chapter on learning and technology. Approximately 70-75% of the 4th edition is new, reflecting advances in research over the past 15 years.
