Highly centrally regulated educational system of Turkey did not allow the flourish of alternative schools until recently (Akdag&Korkmaz, 2008). We explored the pedagogical and organizational processes at one of the few recent alternative K-4 schools in Turkey, founded on the axes of alternative education, democratic governance, ecological balance, and original financing. We discuss the emerging themes in relation to the challenges of sustaining the innovative school system located in a centralized schooling culture.
