Black Twitter: Dispelling the Reinforcement of the Grand Narrative through Critical Pedagogy

Short Description

Images have the power to create false narratives and possess implicit messages, but Shankar (2014) challenges utilizing imagery that reinforces social hierarchies that are trying to be overcome. In this presentation, we share examples from Black Twitter, a subset of Twitter that curates issues affecting the Black community, that highlight grand narratives and discuss how Bradshaw’s (2017) educational approach to teaching with critical pedagogy can be used to integrate critical pedagogy into higher education curriculums.
