This qualitative, phenomenological study describes how participating in the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) Case Study competition influenced student learning through authentic learning experiences. The lived-experiences of the students are examined to gain insights into the benefits of having the instructional opportunity to apply previously obtained knowledge and skills to a simulated, yet authentic, work environment. Detailed descriptions are presented on how these authentic learning experiences impacted the students, both academically and professionally.
