Practice, Pedagogy, and Culture: ICT Usage in a Private Japanese University

Wed, Nov 4, 4:30 to 5:45pm EST (4:30 to 5:45pm EST), Virtual AECT, City7

Short Description

In Japan, initiatives promoting the effective use of ICT to develop 21st century skills have met with little success. Prior research suggests inadequate awareness of ICT use and culturally influenced teaching practice as barriers. This presentation reports on research conducted in Japan on faculty use of ICT, reasons for use, obstacles to use, and beliefs about teachers’ roles. The use of ICT within the specific cultural context and implications for faculty development will be discussed.
