An increasing number of medical students use commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) educational resources to augment the material provided though the formal curriculum. The expanding number of available COTS warrants the development of a framework that can efficiently evaluate any given product. We developed a framework, including both evaluation criteria and protocols that can be utilized by medical education stakeholders to assist in selecting suitable COTS to meet their educational needs.
