6500 online college students completed a new survey about situative “framing” of their learning, an alternative to the popular constructivist Community of Inquiry survey. Exploratory and confirmatory analyses validated the factor structure and the six scales were internally consistent (all α > .77). One scale (Setting:Place) was more highly correlated with perceived learning gains (.56) than any of the ten scales of perceived engagement on the widely-used National Survey of Student Engagement.
