Access to health education continues to be a challenge across rural areas, especially for Indigenous communities. In response to this need, we designed a health education workshop series, We Got the Beat, to promote awareness of health issues that commonly affect Native American populations by teaching Native students to make their own simple heart rate monitors. Our work has practical implications for leveraging a culturally-situated approach to using emerging technologies in health education contexts.
