This paper explores how the IR images help students learn heat radiation within the guidance of the Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) strategy in combination with the evidence-based reasoning (EBR) framework. We first adopted image processing techniques to extract the visual features students used in describing abstract scientific processes in images. Then, the correlations between students’ descriptions of the phenomena and the features in images were analyzed using statistical methods. . The analytical results indicated that the IR images could contribute to students’ scientific reasoning process, promoting more detailed descriptions of procedural changes.
