This session presents findings from a study that examined to what extent Electroencephalography (EEG) brain activity can capture fluctuation of student engagement during pre-recorded lectures. In-video probes were used to assess student engagement at random moments. Our findings revealed that EEG activity in the alpha (8-12Hz) band closely tracked fluctuations in self-reported engagement and levels of engagement in each lecture. These findings can inform future attempts to incorporate physiological data into adaptive education technology.
