Theory-informed digital game-based interventions for students’ language learning outcomes: A systematic review

Fri, Oct 28, 11:50am to 12:05pm PDT (11:50am to 12:05pm PDT), Conf Center, Wilshire A

Short Description

Research on digital game-based language learning (DGBLL) has been steadily increasing over the last two decades. However, a pervasive issue with a great deal of research to-date is a lack of attention to theoretical foundations. In response, the current study explored how theories have informed DGBLL studies. This session will report findings of a systematic literature review of empirical studies on DGBLL published between 2011 and 2020. Theories referenced across 65 manuscripts were categorized, the roles that theory played were identified, and suggestions for future research were developed. Implications for research and practice will be discussed.
