This survey of 1528 middle and high school students focuses on engagement in learning, extracurriculars, and friendship across modalities and concurrence during the 2020-21 school year. Findings showed that remote learners were less engaged than other groups. Concurrent leaners also struggled, even when in the physical classroom. This study has implications for how schools approach the need to offer flexible and remote options for learning, extracurriculars, and socialization when emergencies such as a pandemic arise.
