The potential of using coding music to teach computer science to young children has been suggested due to the structural parallelisms between music and computing, but its widespread adoption has not been demonstrated. To address this, we created M-flow, a flow-based programming platform, and a curriculum for fourth-graders, resulting in increased engagement and self-efficacy toward programming. Our results suggest that coding music can be a powerful tool to engage children in computer science when using an appropriate platform.
