iPad and Android tablets and apps are increasingly being integrated by teachers in phonological awareness (PA) and phonics instruction. However, there is a paucity of rubrics available to teachers to assess the appropriateness of these apps for use in classrooms. This research focused on the development of a rubric to evaluate PA and phonics apps for K-2 instruction. The rubric was finalized following expert reviews and the application of the rubric with three iPad apps.
