Computing education scholars have identified dispositions as important competencies in the workplace. This conceptual paper explores computing curricular guidelines and presents a competency model (defining competencies as knowledge, skills, or dispositions) along with a list of dispositions required in industry, based on a larger, multi-institutional research project. We propose a similar move in instructional design education. This presentation may be of interest to instructional designers, researchers of competency-based education curricula, educators, and educational policymakers.
