There is a dire need to design learning experiences in inclusive and equitable ways. Adopting traditional instructional design (ID) models is insufficient, as they were informed mostly by research excluding marginalized groups. We suggest considering learner variability when designing in order to be relevant and effective for the full diversity of learners and using the Learner Variability Navigator as a critical-questioning tool to understand how learners’ variability contributes to learning and how to support them.
