The Community of Inquiry framework, developed as a generic model, has become the most cited model to inform online learning experiences. Research suggests that investigating the CoI framework across disciplines is necessary for full actualization. In this multiple-case study, we used the CoI as a lens to compare differences in course design across disciplines. Findings and implications both within and across disciplines were discovered, several that oppose the current literature on disciplinary differences.
