The Effect of High-Immersion Virtual Reality on Listening Tasks

Tue, Oct 17, 11:00 to 11:50am EDT (11:00 to 11:50am EDT), Doubletree Main Conference Center - Seminole, Sun & Surf II

Short Description

Holding learners’ attention is challenging, especially when they are asked to listen to long listening passages. Virtual reality can potentially immerse learners in listening tasks, even in such complex languages as Chinese. This presentation will report on a mixed-methods empirical study testing the effect of virtual reality on holding Chinese language learners’ attention during listening tasks. Measures taken under account included cognitive load, engagement, immersion, and the sense of presence.
