Restructuring a Doctoral Program Informed by Ethics of Care for Decision-making Regarding Systems, Policies, Processes, and Communication

Short Description

The opportunity arose to revise and refine the structure of a doctoral program’s academic operations. In response to declining enrollments, cultural needs, and retention challenges, a program redesign was initiated, guided by concepts from Nodding’s Ethics of Care. Reflexive decision-making records were kept and regarding how each decision was meant to be rooted in showing increased care for or care about students. This session discusses our approach to building a caring culture and early findings.
