Factors related to students’ online learning experiences through the Community of Inquiry framework: A thematic synthesis

Tue, Oct 17, 11:00 to 11:50am EDT (11:00 to 11:50am EDT), Doubletree Main Conference Center - Seminole, Space Coast II

Short Description

This thematic synthesis investigated the factors influencing students' online learning experiences as informed by the Community of Inquiry framework. We followed the three-stage procedure proposed by Thomas and Harden (2008): coding studies, developing descriptive themes, and generating analytical themes. We identified ten descriptive themes grouped into three overarching categories: course design, instructor actions, and student actions. The analytical themes included accountability, being real, and supporting the learning process. Implications and future research will be discussed.
