The Relations Between Epistemic Curiosity and Deep Learning in Asynchronous Online Discussions

Tue, Oct 17, 8:00 to 8:50am EDT (8:00 to 8:50am EDT), Doubletree Main Conference Center - Seminole, Sun & Surf III

Short Description

Low student contributions in asynchronous online discussions (AODs) is an enduring problem. Little contribution translates to surface levels of learning. To address this problem, we theorized that student curiosity plays a prominent role in student participation in AODs. It influences information seeking in response to emerging knowledge gaps. The results of this mixed-methods study may be of interest to instructors and instructional designers who use or research AODs in their work.
