Abstract

To enhance students’ academic accomplishment, many educators have emphasized high teacher quality. However, the only qualified teacher cannot promise students’ success. Therefore, we should stress teaching quality which is influenced by both teachers’ individual characteristics and situation characteristics. Because there are few studies which examine the influence of situation characteristics on teaching quality in international level, I am conducting cross-cultural comparative analysis of the relationship between situation characteristics and teaching quality using 2009 TALIS data. I found that teachers of Mexico, Italy, and Poland have high level teaching quality. Also, there is considerable portion of the variation in teaching quality among schools in thirteen OECD nations. Moreover, school climate and students’ features develop teaching quality, but school leadership does not.
