Abstract

The purpose of this research is to explain the development of the cross cultural Moral Conflict Situation Questionnaire (MCSQ) developed in Argentina for the purpose of collecting data about shame and guilt from observations of child/child and teacher/child interactions. The data gathered from the instrument has led to the development of the Moral Conflict Development Theory and to (a) provide a theoretical and practical framework concerning children’s moral development based on the unfolding of certain moral emotions such as guilt and shame and (b) facilitate teachers’ awareness of the difference they make in children’s moral development that is dependent on how they intervene in moral mishaps and antisocial behavior that arise among children during school time.
