This paper discusses the potential of participatory video for enabling adults to become agents to shape participatory culture by engaging them in educational research. This discussion is based on a participatory video research project carried out with four participants in Chicago in 2010. In this project they learned basic video production skills and conducted research around public schools, as education for children was the deepest concern common to them, which resulted in a short documentary video. In this presentation I first examine the literature around participatory culture, and then describe the process and the outcomes of the participatory video research project. Finally, I discuss the potential for participatory video to prompt adults to engage in constructing a participatory culture.
