Abstract

In-service teachers and University faculty and staff partnered to create monthly DVD classroom newsletters. The monthly DVD classroom newsletters were designed for teachers to technologically communicate with parents, showcase classroom teaching and learning, and promote partnerships between home and school. One professional growth strategy is to couple feedback from external change agents (e.g., University researchers) with teachers’ self-assessment (Ross & Bruce, 2007). As a result, the present study reports on the validity and reliability of the Monthly DVD Classroom Newsletter-Rubric (MDCN-R) and describes a teacher self-assessment measure. We suggest that teachers’ active involvement in technology (i.e., creating and watching the monthly DVD classroom newsletters), peer feedback in the form of the MCDN-R, and self-assessment may contribute to teachers’ professional development.
