School Teachers’ Perception and Attitude Toward Outdoor Education

Abstract

Starting from 1990’s, the outdoor education has been emphasized in Taiwan to be connected with the K-9 educational system. While previous research mostly emphasized on developing curriculum and increasing effectiveness of outdoor education such as the history of outdoor education, the practical manual of outdoor activities, the present situations, needs and difficulties of practicing outdoor education; less research focused on teachers’ perception of outdoor education and the teaching principles/ features. Therefore, this study used qualitative method to explore the Taiwanese teachers’ perceptions on outdoor education. After presenting our findings, we will also provide in-service teachers with some suggestions on practicing outdoor education.
