Abstract

The goal of developing structured education researcher and practitioner collaborations is to strengthen participant knowledge, skills, abilities, and behavior to build capacity to use data and conduct research that results in improved educational outcomes. We propose an action research cycle for organizing the researcher/practitioner collaborative effort around this goal. Specifically, 1) practitioners will gain increased capacity to use and conduct research that informs their practice; and, 2) researchers will gain increased capacity to design and conduct research that responds to practitioner problems of practice. This paper describes the process for such collaboration to improve student outcomes that has been informed by prior research as well as our practical experience working with practitioners over the last five years.
