Tue, April 17, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom C

Abstract

This study analyzed Spanish/English writing samples of Emerging Bilingual children over three years. The study’s purpose is three fold: (1) to analyze the relationships between students’ first and second language skills in the context of learning to write for school purposes in both languages, (2) to identify how children are progressing as simultaneous bilingual writers, and (3) to examine whether children apply the skills learned through the Dictado in their writing samples. The dictado is an instructional method learned and utilized by all teachers in the research classrooms in this study.
