Use of Technology in a Large School District: Perspectives From Students, Teachers, and Principals

Abstract

The use of technology is ubiquitous in our current society, and youth are heavily engaged with various forms of technology and digital media. However, the ways in which youth engage with technology may not align with the skills needed to succeed as a participant in today’s society after high school. Our work seeks to understand how digital technologies, in particular computers and the internet, are being used in a large urban district by students, teachers, and principals and what the expectations are for students’ proficiency in how to use these technologies in educationally relevant ways. This paper seeks to provide district- and school-level personnel with meaningful information that can inform future efforts to improve the use of technology in schools.
