Abstract

This study addresses two topics central to higher education today: contingent faculty and remedial education. Public colleges and universities exist under constant pressure to reduce budgets and diminish spending. One of the few ways to trim the personnel budget is to transition more faculty positions from those including tenure to ones that are on a contract only basis (Baldwin & Chronister, 2001). But, does this come at the expense of student success? This study evaluates the impact of an institution’s faculty characteristics on student outcomes in general, and more specifically for remedial education students
