Abstract

This paper presents the findings from the first two years of Arizona Department of Education statewide system for the collection of student discipline incident data, AZSafe.
The quantitative analysis includes demographic, geographic, and social factors along with violations and actions for every student discipline in the state from 2009-2011. Results, which will be used to inform three additional years of study under a Safe and Supportive Schools program, show the need for progressive discipline and positive intervention systems to stem the tide of school violence in Arizona.
