Abstract

The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) has been engaged in a multi-year effort to transform secondary education in the state. In its 2008 Secondary School Regulations, the Rhode Island Board of Regents set forth requirements for high school diploma programs. Based on these requirements, RIDE conducts reviews of each district’s high school diploma program in an endorsement process known as the “Commissioner’s Review.” RIDE is interested in (1) the relationship between each requirement of the Commissioner’s Review and student achievement on the state assessment and (2) the relationship between endorsement status and student achievement on the state assessment. Using data provided by RIDE, the proposed study will employ descriptive statistics and multilevel regression models to examine the research questions.
