Session Submission Type: Symposium
Educational change initiatives can have a significant impact on district culture and can alter the ways in which teachers interact with each other. Drawing upon empirical findings from four educational change initiatives in Canada and the United States, this symposium will examine various strategies utilized by districts to promote professional communities of practice. Empirical findings from four studies will be discussed in relation to school improvement and effectiveness. These findings illuminate the success of the change processes and the challenges that were present in each of the initiatives.
