Session Submission Type: Symposium
There are 1.2 million children in the United States with one or both parents actively serving in the military. Most are enrolled in public schools. Varied data sources converge to reveal areas of need and concern for military-connected students, families, and the educators and schools that serve them. This symposium brings together an interdisciplinary group of researchers who apply multiple perspectives and methods of analysis to bear on the problem. The first half articulates in depth the needs of this uniquely vulnerable population. The second half responds with empirically-based papers that inform innovative responses from institutions of higher education including professional training programs, and evaluation tools designed specifically for military-connected public schools.
