Session Submission Summary

Moral Motivation: State of the Art in an Upcoming Research Field

Mon, April 16, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Third Level, West Room 304

Session Submission Type: Symposium

Abstract

Moral motivation is proclaimed as highly relevant for moral education and for diminishing immoral behaviour. But looking at the state of the art on this issue we have to recognize that there is still a basic need for explicating what makes people acting morally right. How Rest assumed in his four component model, moral motivation is an important determinant of moral behaviour, but it has been remained badly elaborated for a longer time. To overwhelm this lack of research, different approaches to moral motivation have been developed. In this session some of them, particularly representing contrasting approaches, will be introduced in order to evoke a fruitful discussion about the way how to conceptualize and study “moral motivation”.
