Session Submission Type: Symposium
Dramatic changes in special education policy and practice have occurred in the 36 years since the passage of PL 94-142. This session documents how those changes have been reflected in the experiences and outcomes of transition-age youth with disabilities between the National Longitudinal Transition Study (NLTS, 1985-1993) and the National Longitudinal Transition Study-2 (NLTS2, 2001-2011). The session then focuses on the current national picture of the outcomes and experiences of young adult with disabilities up to 8 years post-high school regarding their postsecondary education, employment, social and community involvement, and household circumstances. Variations in outcomes and experiences of young adults with different disability, demographic, and high school leaving characteristics and their implications will be presented and discussed.
