Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
This symposium presents findings from a multi-year investigation of school district consolidation in Maine which tracked the development, implementation and early impacts of the state’s bold 2007 legislation mandating district reorganization. Qualitative case studies explore early efforts to consolidate, the challenges and supports in reorganization planning and implementation, early financial and educational impacts, and “lessons learned.” Findings from this study address a significant gap in research on consolidation and have the potential to inform and guide state and local decisions about policy and implementation.
