Session Submission Type: Workshop
Mediated Discourse Analysis, a research method informed by social cognition theories, considers the ways in which action and discourse are intricately situated in social contexts. Acknowledging that our actions and potential for actions are limited and enhanced by such contexts, Mediated Discourse Analysis researchers tend to view sites of inquiry as locations for political, social, and educational implications. This workshop introduces participants to the nature, practice, challenges, and potentials of this method of inquiry, allowing each participant an opportunity to explore techniques with observational data, in the context of small groups. Novice and veteran researchers alike are invited to consider the ways in which this qualitative method might offer valuable lenses in their own research.
