Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
In the nineties of the 20th century school networks became an important instrument for educational change and school improvement (Lieberman, 1996). Networks gave voice and empowerment to teachers and school leaders and built communities of practices. Eleven of these networks wrote together the book ‘Network Learning for Educational Change’ (Veugelers & O’Hair, 2005). In this symposium we bring together five of these networks to inquiry which directions they have gone, how they became sustainable, and how they incorporated new technology and new ideas about learning, professional development, community-building and school improvement. We selected five papers from countries and initiatives that attract a lot of attention in contemporary educational debate: Finland, China, Netherlands and the United States.
