Session Submission Type: Symposium
Many students continue to experience victimization at school. For a number of these students, this victimization is discriminatory and based on bias and prejudices on account of their actual or perceived social identity (e.g., their sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, gender or gender expression, religion). Despite the serious nature of bias-based victimization, limited research has documented its prevalence or associated outcomes. Therefore, this session seeks to highlight the nature of bias-based victimization as it relates to several forms of bias and as it is experienced from elementary through high school. Further, the session will highlight psychological and social outcomes associated with these types of victimization.
